Guitar Toolbox

26 Feb 2024

Dan Holton

Today we're very excited to announce our brand new Toolbox, available to every single one of our Guitar Club members. We've been hard at work developing a floating tool that will join and support you on your guitar journey, and I briefly want to walk you through some of the core features, and how to find them. First up, here is the visual guide:

The Floating Toolbox

The first thing to point out is we have developed this Toolbox to act as a companion to your learning. Wherever you are on the site, whatever course you are working through, you'll see the Toolbox floating in the corner of your screen. Click this little box to open up a world of guitar wisdom to help you perfect whatever challenge you are currently working on, and understand the content even more deeply.

This little box is going to become a genuine friend to you on the site. Offering scale diagrams when you need to visualise the fretboard, drum beats when you need to hit the guitar gym, and as it continues to develop, much more!

Practice Logging

Whether you are on a specific part of a course or practising something a little more independently, you can use this tool to track all of your progress. Everything you track is then recorded in your practice diary, as shown above. This is a fantastic way to monitor your progress and build a clear habit of practising.

Backing Tracks

As you navigate to various courses on the website, you will be able to use the backing track part of the Toolbox. Simply look for the backing track symbol underneath course videos to fire this up, and then you can use the slow time/speed up function and loop function within the Toolbox. We'll also be adding more general backing tracks here very soon, so watch this space!

Drum Machine

The first tool to pop up is the drum machine. When you want to get a beat on to practice your scales, song or rhythm, this is the tool you need. It's also very easy to get to grips with. You can either map out your own beat, using a kick, snare and hi-hat combination, or, as we probably recommend if you've never seen a sequencer like this before, simply pick a pre-designed beat and press play. You'll soon see how you can play around with it! Don't forget to set your tempo and slowly build up your speed as you practice!

Scales

The second tool you will see is the scale visualiser. This is going to be a game-changer as you work through your lead guitar courses. Perhaps it's myself, or one of our other amazing tutors, teaching you about a particular solo using the B minor pentatonic scale. Pop up this tool, dial in the key, select minor pentatonic, and voila! You have the whole fretboard mapped out in front of you. We've even highlighted the root so you can identify the shapes along the fretboard.

Guitar Gym

Finally, we have the epic Guitar Gym tool! Click this section to uncover a library of wonderful gym exercises for beginners, intermediate and advanced players. Use the filters to find the perfect exercises for you, and use these in your daily practice to see your technical skills skyrocket. Why not also use the practice logging tool to log your session and get it in your practice diary!

The best news here? This is just the start! We have some very exciting plans to add more to your Toolbox. Every new addition will be there to serve you and your guitar playing!
