In our Level 1 Harmony course, you worked with Franco to understand the basics of how chords and keys are built. Our job with this course is to take that one step further and show you how to get really creative with the harmony, to be able to write your own songs! Learning from pop masters!

In this course we’ve drawn inspiration from modern pop greats, such as Dua Lipa, Nile Rodgers, James Bay, Sam Fender and many others. These guys know how to take musical harmony, and bring it to life creatively. In Units 1 & 2 we expand your technical horizons, taking the blocky barre chord shapes we used in Harmony Level 1, and levelling them up to 7th chords, shell chords, triads and diads. This introduces new, sweeter sounds, that are musically richer and immediately boost your creativity. We also improve your dynamics and hybrid picking skills along the way. In Units 3 and 4 we put your new skills into practice by building a modern pop track, with Kiall guiding you through the whole process. The beauty of this track is that, although it’s pop-based in this course, all of these concepts work in multiple genres, so it’s truly universal.

Reducing the Barre

We take our barre chord shapes and reduce them down to smaller triads and diads to get 3 and 2 string shapes that are far more harmonically fun that the chunky barre chord.

Expanding the Triad

In this unit, we will slowly build upon our triad ideas. The focus here will be to use open strings to create a new realm of soundscapes for us, as well as 7th chords to add even more flavour to our major and minor chords

The Track Part 1

In this unit we start to put everything into practice with fully produced a modern pop track that utilises triads, diads, 7th chords and more! This is where it starts to get really practical!

The Track Part 2

In this final unit, we’re continuing to work on our modern pop track, gradually building all the parts so that you understand exactly how we got there! The process is as important as the end result here!
