What you'll be learning

  • Welcome to this Electric Guitar Level 1 pathway! πŸŽ‰πŸ˜ƒ

Here, we are building your main electric guitar skills from absolute scratch. You don't need to know a single thing on guitar to start here, and if you prefer electric guitar over acoustic, this is the pathway for you.

We will be diving into open chords, strumming, spider exercises, powerchords, beginner blues ideas & essential theory. We'll be putting everything we learn into practice with great songs, both custom made and in the style of great players and bands.

So, when you're ready, grab your electric guitar and let's get started!

    Learn The Essentials

What a great place to stop and breathe for a second. We've been going at it pretty full on for 4 stages of the pathway now, and this is a good time to cover a bit of essential theory to back up your new skills. Don't forget to make sure any course songs are on your regular playing list, as they will continue to improve as the weeks go on.

    Apply your new skills

    Open Chords

Really appreciate the beauty of open chords

How many open chords do you have committed to memory? At this point it's important to have the major and minor open chords memorised, but there are so many more we can learn. This is where we add even more useful chords to your library!

    Guitar Gym

    Improve your technique

We have a big player study coming up to finish up our pathway, so I just want to make sure you are using your practice time wisely and getting these two guitar gym exercises in as often as possible will help hugely! "Spiders" may be a little unfamiliar to you, but give them a go as it will help with the Kurt Cobain study. If you like the spider exercise, and want more, the first Lead Pathway will be a great shout for your next one!

Congratulations for getting all the way through this epic pathway! You've done absolutely brilliantly, and should take a moment to recognise that! At this point you have two options for your next steps…

If you want to continue to improve your rhythm guitar playing and general fretboard knowledge move to the Electric Level 2 pathway where we'll jump up to barre chords.

If you are interested in lead skills, I would now tackle Lead Guitar 1 as your next project.

What is important is that you take a range of your favourite songs from the pathway, and practice them regularly, to ensure that those rhythm and chord skills are continuously improving. When they become too easy, let them go! There will be plenty more taking their place along the way. See you in the next pathway!
